O christmas tree
Decorating the christmas tree is fun. Wishing you a merry christmas.
Oh Christmas Tree lyrics
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging;
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging;
Not only green when summer's here,
But also when 'tis cold and drear.
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy leaves are so unchanging!
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Much pleasure thou can'st give me;
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Much pleasure thou can'st give me;
How often has the Christmas tree
Afforded me the greatest glee!
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Much pleasure thou can'st give me.
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy candles shine so brightly!
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy candles shine so brightly!
From base to summit, gay and bright,
There's only splendor for the sight.
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
Thy candles shine so brightly!
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
How richly God has decked thee!
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
How richly God has decked thee!
Thou bidst us true and faithful be,
And trust in God unchangingly.
O Christmas Tree! O Christmas Tree!
How richly God has decked thee! !"

Time
I find myself in a constant race against time. In my school days my favourite topic for any essay was "the value of time". Mainly it was also due to laziness to learn any new essay. I used to be the last one to complete my exam papers and writing an essay extempore was really a nightmare. It would have taken atleast an hour to write an essay on a new topic. So to save time I byHearted the essay and save time(real value for time).
The above picture I made is based on an old malayalam childrens movie where the protagonist child sees himself chasing an alarm in a nightmare. The image stuck in my mind for so many years.
Hopefully this picture will be useful in your presentations where you have to emphasise on strictly following deadlines.
Another inspiration to do this picture is the lines from the poem "if" by Rudyard Kipling which goes
"If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!"
So much for the serious part.
Well also speaking about time, here is a video song from old Kannada movie starring Dr.Rajkumar .. "If you come today ,its too early, If you come tomorow its too late, You pick the time, tick tick tick :)

Comeback
June was really a tough month. It was half year closing. Many projects had to be preponed to fill the target. This kept me really busy and I hardly got any time to post any new cartoon. Now that the month is over there is more time to indulge in my pastime. Which of course means more of my non sense cartoons :)

Just a small cartoon on the spread of the dreaded Swine Flu.
The last few years have seen a lot of new kinds of disease breakout and spread at different parts of the world. We are lucky that till today we have been able to contain them.
PS: I have actually put a poster as a thumbnail. When you click it , the original cartoon story will be loaded in a new window. From now on I will be posting larger cartoons in this format. If you find any difficulty in opening the image or have any suggestions please do tell me.

Taxi Taxi
'Taxi Taxi' is a hit song from the movie 'Sakkarakkatti'. The line 'Nanba nee oru ilavasa taxi' in tamil means "Friend!! you are a free taxi". The song was a hit because of its catchy beats, and its video which is choreographed very well. The song sounds like a hip hop number with few lines of rap in between. The song lyrics is listed below
Tamil Movie - Sakkarakatti
Music Director - AR Rahman
Lyrics - Na. Muthukumar
Singers - Benny Dayal, Blaaze, Viviane, Javed Ali
Starring - Shanthnoo Bhagyaraj, Shibi, Ishita, Vedika

Why is it called Good Friday?
First of all Good Friday is the day Jesus died on the cross. It comes during Holy week which starts with the Palm Sunday and ends with Easter day.
In most of the languages and cultures 'Good Friday' is actually reffered as a 'Sad Friday', or a 'Mourning Friday'. But then how did it become a 'Good Friday' in English. here are many theories. If we go by etymology(study of origin of words) we can see that many words or phrases in English that have the words "Good" or "God" are interchangeably used. For example "Good-bye" is said to be a short form of "God be with you". So in the older times "Good Friday" could have been "God's Friday".
But is the phrase "Good Friday" apt? In the olden times people used to confess their sins in a lambs ear and then send it to the forest or sacrifice it. They believed that their sins will be gone with the lamb. Jesus did the same. He washed away the sins of people by dying on the cross. That is why He is sometimes reffered to as the Lamb. So it is of course a good friday too as His death has brought the greatest good there could be.

Deeps Comments :Statistics and Surveys
Here are a few ways to make your statistic look credible
- Domino reference method : Refer to something that refers to something that refers to ...etc..
- Claim that the survey was conducted by some big shot company
- Add decimal points. For eg: "Almost 83.45% of the people will like this point."
- Cross reference: A refers to B. B refers to A.
- But the most important of all is speak with so much confidence as if it was nothing but the truth.
I am sure that almost 98% of you will agree to the above conclusion.

Delhi 6 - Massakali
The lines are from the hit song from the movie Delhi 6 starring Abhishek Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor. Music was composed by double Oscar winner A.R.Rahman.
The scene where the heroine dances on the terrace with a dove on her head was so cute. There is a also a scene in which the hero sees a dream, which has been picturised very well. He sees Qutub Minar on one side and then Eiffel tower on one side. He walks through Delhi streets filled with New York style cabs. He turns to find high rises like in western countries and Streets are filled with Indian crowds.
Hindi Song: Massakali Massakali
Movie or Album: Delhi 6
Singer(s): Mohit Chauhan
Music Director(s): A R Rahman
Lyricist(s): Prasoon Joshi

Smile Pinki
'Smile Pinki' is a tale of a poor Indian village girl who has been left out from the social circle because of her cleft. How her life changes for the good after undergoing a lip surgery forms the crux of the film.
The Film was directed by American Film maker Megan Mylan. It won the Best Short Documentary Award at the Oscars. It is said to have won the hearts of all jury members.
I have not seen this film but can really visualise the theme. Little children with disabilities or imperfections often get left out from their friends circle. Hats off to the team for selecting such a topic.
Here Pinky is holding the Oscar and in her own cute style "shmiling" and "poshing" for photographers.

The Highwayman
Here you can see pappu in the highwaymans costume riding his wooden horse. I learned this poem while in school, and fell in love with the descritive style of the poem. Here is the whole poem.
The Highwayman (by Alfred Noyes)
PART ONE
I
The wind was a torrent of darkness among the gusty trees,
The moon was a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
The road was a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
And the highwayman came riding—riding—riding—
The highwayman came riding, up to the old inn-door.
II
He'd a French cocked-hat on his forehead, a bunch of lace at his chin,
A coat of the claret velvet, and breeches of brown doe-skin;
They fitted with never a wrinkle: his boots were up to the thigh!
And he rode with a jewelled twinkle, His pistol butts a-twinkle,His rapier hilt a-twinkle, under the jewelled sky.
III
Over the cobbles he clattered and clashed in the dark inn-yard,
And he tapped with his whip on the shutters, but all was locked and barred;
He whistled a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there
But the landlord's black-eyed daughter,
Bess, the landlord's daughter,
Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair.
IV
And dark in the dark old inn-yard a stable-wicket creaked
Where Tim the ostler listened; his face was white and peaked;
His eyes were hollows of madness, his hair like mouldy hay,
But he loved the landlord's daughter,
The landlord's red-lipped daughter,
Dumb as a dog he listened, and he heard the robber say—
V
"One kiss, my bonny sweetheart, I'm after a prize to-night,
But I shall be back with the yellow gold before the morning light;
Yet, if they press me sharply, and harry me through the day,
Then look for me by moonlight,Watch for me by moonlight,
I'll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way."
VI
He rose upright in the stirrups; he scarce could reach her hand,
But she loosened her hair i' the casement! His face burnt like a brand
As the black cascade of perfume came tumbling over his breast;
And he kissed its waves in the moonlight,
(Oh, sweet, black waves in the moonlight!)
Then he tugged at his rein in the moonliglt, and galloped away to the West.
PART TWO
I
He did not come in the dawning; he did not come at noon;
And out o' the tawny sunset, before the rise o' the moon,
When the road was a gypsy's ribbon, looping the purple moor,
A red-coat troop came marching—Marching—marching—
King George's men came matching, up to the old inn-door.
II
They said no word to the landlord, they drank his ale instead,
But they gagged his daughter and bound her to the foot of her narrow bed;
Two of them knelt at her casement, with muskets at their side!
There was death at every window; And hell at one dark window;
For Bess could see, through her casement, the road that he would ride.
III
They had tied her up to attention, with many a sniggering jest;
They had bound a musket beside her, with the barrel beneath her breast!
"Now, keep good watch!" and they kissed her.
She heard the dead man say— Look for me by moonlight;
Watch for me by moonlight;
I'll come to thee by moonlight, though hell should bar the way!
IV
She twisted her hands behind her; but all the knots held good!
She writhed her hands till her fingers were wet with sweat or blood!
They stretched and strained in the darkness, and the hours crawled by like years,
Till, now, on the stroke of midnight, Cold, on the stroke of midnight,
The tip of one finger touched it! The trigger at least was hers!
V
The tip of one finger touched it; she strove no more for the rest!
Up, she stood up to attention, with the barrel beneath her breast,
She would not risk their hearing; she would not strive again;
For the road lay bare in the moonlight;Blank and bare in the moonlight;
And the blood of her veins in the moonlight throbbed to her love's refrain .
VI
Tlot-tlot; tlot-tlot! Had they heard it? The horse-hoofs ringing clear;
Tlot-tlot, tlot-tlot, in the distance? Were they deaf that they did not hear?
Down the ribbon of moonlight, over the brow of the hill,
The highwayman came riding, Riding, riding!
The red-coats looked to their priming! She stood up, straight and still!
VII
Tlot-tlot, in the frosty silence! Tlot-tlot, in the echoing night!
Nearer he came and nearer! Her face was like a light!
Her eyes grew wide for a moment; she drew one last deep breath,
Then her finger moved in the moonlight,
Her musket shattered the moonlight,
Shattered her breast in the moonlight and warned him—with her death.
VIII
He turned; he spurred to the West; he did not know who stood
Bowed, with her head o'er the musket, drenched with her own red blood!
Not till the dawn he heard it, his face grew grey to hear
How Bess, the landlord's daughter,
The landlord's black-eyed daughter,
Had watched for her love in the moonlight, and died in the darkness there.
IX
Back, he spurred like a madman, shrieking a curse to the sky,
With the white road smoking behind him and his rapier brandished high!
Blood-red were his spurs i' the golden noon; wine-red was his velvet coat,
When they shot him down on the highway,
Down like a dog on the highway,
And he lay in his blood on the highway, with the bunch of lace at his throat.
* * * * * *
X
And still of a winter's night, they say, when the wind is in the trees,
When the moon is a ghostly galleon tossed upon cloudy seas,
When the road is a ribbon of moonlight over the purple moor,
A highwayman comes riding— Riding—riding—
A highwayman comes riding, up to the old inn-door.
XI
Over the cobbles he clatters and clangs in the dark inn-yard;
He taps with his whip on the shutters, but all is locked and barred;
He whistles a tune to the window, and who should be waiting there
But the landlord's black-eyed daughter,
Bess, the landlord's daughter,
Plaiting a dark red love-knot into her long black hair.

oru naaL oru kanavu
The tamil caption says
"oru naaL oru kanavu, adhai naan maRakkavum mudiyaadhu,
Vaanavillil nadandhu senRu, siriththirikkum natchaththirap pooppariththoam'
which in English translates to
"Once i had dream that I can never forget,
We walked over the rainbow and picked the smiling flowers that were stars"
Here pappu and pinky are picking the smiling stars.
The lines are from the song 'oru naaL oru kanavu' from the tamil movie 'kannukkul nilavu'
The pictures are of 1024x768 size so i can be put as desktop wall paper. I have also made a version without the tamil captions. Click on the pictures to enlarge them.

Deeps' Comments on Global Economy
Well the person who has inspired me most to do the character Deeps was Dheep Joy Mampilly , one of my School time friends. Dheep had an amazing vocabulary. In his own words "I have a knack of writing relatively abstruse English - and a bit verbose too - as you would know; indeed, I know that this is not appreciated by many, but my object is to use language in a way that makes it humorous because and not in spite of its difficulty. " We used to have Shakespeare classes. In the beginning everyone started reffering to Dheep's english as 'Shakespearean'. By the end evryone was reffering to Shakespeare as 'Dheepian'.
Just to give you a sample of his language I requested him to write dialogues for the same cartoon in his style. It was done during the new year time so it is a little bit old but still here it is.

How I posted javascript on my blog post
- Copy the code/javascipt you have.
- Follow this link http://www.elliotswan.com/postable/
- Paste your code there and hit the "make it friendly " button
- Copy the code generated and paste in your Post.
Thats it. As simple as that. And just to think that i wasted half a day over this. :(
How I added the Recent comments list to my blog
There are two methods and the outputs also vary accordingly.
First Method : I think it was from blogger buster i got this code
copy the above code.
In your blogger 'dashboard' goto 'Layout'. Click on the 'add a Gadget'. Select the 'HTML/Javascript' widget by Blogger. Paste the code there. Give a heading. Do the following modifications
Instead of 'pappuandpinky' in the code, type your blog name. Save the changes. You are done!! congrats. You will have a 'Recent comments section like the one on my page.
Tweaks:
var a_rc=5 :means the last 5 comments will be shown. You can change it as desired.
var o_rc=100 :means the first 100 letters of the comments will be shown
Second Method
Take Blogger dashboard. Go to Layout. Click on 'add a gadget'. select the 'Feed' gadget. For the 'Feed URL' enter 'http://YourBlogName.blogspot.com/feeds/comments/full'
Once you click 'Continue' Blogger will automatically show the next page with selctions for the 'number of post', 'date' etc. Select according to your wish and 'OK' it.
Advantages and Disadvantages of the above methods
The first method depends on a third party javascript. There is no guarantee about it. If you are skeptical about other party links or third party cookies dont use it. If the site hosting that code is down then the Gadget wont work. But I have chosen this code only on my blog as It was the most pleasing for me.
The second method is the most sure and secure method but the options in it are less. The number of comments are upto 5 only. You cannot tweak it.
Hope you will find it easy to put on your blog. All the best.

Deeps' comments on Generation Gap
The character Deeps is based on few of my friends whose intellect level were a little higher than the most of us. Dheep Joy Mampilly and Deepak Subramaniam topping the list. So I named him Deeps.
Generation gap: Earlier it used to be felt between people who are atleast many years apart in age. Now that has changed a lot. Just a couple of years is all what you need to feel that difference.

Lajjavathy
Many of the elders proclaimed it as blasphemy. Some said he sounded like a drunkard. But the catchy beats of the song just became a big hit among the youngsters.
The movie was such hit mainly because of the song. The opening day of the movie saw many youngsters dressed up as the hero in the song, at the theatres. There were instances when the 'play on request channels' played the song almost 500 times back to back. The movie was later dubbed to Tamil as '4 students' and to telegu 'yuvasena- 4 the people'. In Kannada the song was included in the movie 'hudugaata' starring Ganesh of 'Mungaaru male' fame.
Jassie Gift became successful because he was ready to travel the untrodden path.

Pappu and his guitar
When I was young I really craved to learn the guitar. But unfortunately for me, or fortunately for people around me, nobody ever bought me one. Whenever anyone close to our family would ask me what I want as a gift, the only thing i would ask is a guitar.
Finally in the year 2008, I was able to purchase one. I still dont know how to play it. People ask me then why I bought a guitar? Well my answer is that I love the sound of guitar, no matter who plays it. So next time any of my friends who know to play the guitar visits me, i will sure give him my guitar and make him play a few songs for me , giving him no chance to say "Oh, I did'nt bring my guitar along".

Ghajini
Wayward philosophy: Everybody has different priorities in life. For some people their career is on top of their priority list. For some it is love, for some it is food, for some it is family. Rather than horroscope it is the priority list that must match when you look for a good partner. For two people to go together well, their priority lists need not be exactly the same but it is enough if they can understand and respect each others list.
The amount of justice you do to your own priority list will decide how much successful you are in life.

Pappu and Pinky : The first raw sketch
I sketched the picture above on my notepad for a reason. Actually one of my friends was becoming too bossy and dominating. I did not have the guts to tell it straight on her face. I did'nt want to hurt her too. So I chose to draw this cartoon which was for the moment titled as 'The female terror" and sent it to her. And of course she got my point and had a good laugh at the picture too. She asked me if I could draw more of these as she liked them. This was in the beginning of 2007. The question kept echoing in my mind until mid of 2008 when I thought why not add color to the sketch. I posted these cartoons on Orkut and got good response from my friends. And by 2008 end I was inspired enough to start a series of these cartoons.
